Soaking Music, or Soaking Worship, is thought of as a sub-genre to the larger and more well known Christian music genre as a whole. Soaking can perhaps better be described as a process or a practice. Traditional hymns and gospel music are often heard in various churches and worship services spanning multiple denominations. There is nothing wrong with these types of songs, of course, they are so widely and frequently used that their meanings can get lost and congregations become desensitized by the repetition. With the rise in popularity of contemporary Christian music, there is also a lot of focus on the lyrical content and musical composition of such songs. Again, this type of music can be great listening and singing along material, but sometimes the attention these songs may draw can take away from the real focus of a church worship service. Soaking refers to the act of simply kneeling before the Lord in prayer and silent reverie with people non-interferingly praying over you and Instrumental Soaking Music to flow serenely in the background, creating a highly receptive environment in order for you to better receive His anointing and blessings. You may have seen something like this in the form of an “alter call” at the end of a church service, but may have never heard it referred to as the term Soaking Music.

Soaking is itself an act of worship. It is a way to demonstrate your passion for receiving God’s message and your desire to complete His will in your life. It is a way of showing that you are open to accepting Him into your life and that you have opened your mind and your heart up to the idea of hearing Him speak to you, in whatever way that may mean to you personally. Many believe that God still speaks to people audibly. Others may receive a more subtle message in the form of signs, opportunities suddenly becoming available or unavailable, or simply a feeling of a strong pull for your life or an area of your life to take a certain direction, to name a few examples.

The idea that music has the power to move people and evoke emotions in the hearts of those who hear it that are otherwise difficult or even impossible to achieve without the accompaniment of a melody is certainly not a new concept at all. It is this same notion that fuels the belief in and use of Soaking Music to reach a higher place within one’s self spiritually. Soaking Instrumental Music floating soothingly over a prayer service can have the same calming, enlightening, liberating effect over the congregation or group of participants. This is illustrated in the Old Testament of the Bible in the second book of Kings, chapter three, verse 15 (denoted 2 Kings 3:15). Before approaching God on behalf of the King of Judah, the prophet Elisha requested that a minstrel, or a musician, be summoned to play during his time of prayer. “But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him.” This special ability of music as a sort of prayer facilitator is the hope behind the practice of Soaking Instrumental Music.

Other scriptural references to music as a powerful worshiping tool include 1 Samuel 16:23 which states “And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.” In this case, Saul was having trouble with an evil spirit, but when David would play his harp, the spirit was subdued.

If you wish to sample some of this type of music or you would like to apply the benefits of Soaking to your own life, there are many sources of Soaking Music available for download or streaming over the internet. Their goal is to actively facilitate a genuine sense of intimacy and bonding with the Lord. This inspiring genre of music is intended to provide an atmosphere of peacefulness and acceptance so that the listener can fully experience the presence and love of God.

Prophetic worship is one of the most intense and holy ways that a Christian can give worship to God, and to Jesus Christ. Prophetic worship is a kind of devotion that is led by the Holy Spirit, where the worshipers step aside and allow the Spirit to take the worship in whatever direction that is true and real to God, in whatever direction will allow for the most complete, holy, glorious worship to the one Being who deserves all of our honor and praise. This is in keeping with what God has asked from us, that we allow the Spirit to move among us and direct us, to show us the paths of righteousness. Allowing the Spirit to direct worship and not sticking only to what has been written down and planned—though this can be a good place to start, it is not the end goal of prophetic music—can allow us to worship God through the Spirit in the way that it has been intended since the Garden of Eden.

Live worship is often very open to prophetic music, since live worship music can be changed and altered to fit the direction that the Spirit is taking it. This is of course not possible in a recording—while prophetic music can be recorded, it will never have exactly the same impact, since the Spirit may not lead two people or two groups of people in exactly the same way. The differences are what make the experience unique and what makes it possible to worship God in a new way. Does not the Bible talk of singing a new song to the Lord? That is the idea of prophetic worship music, to sing a new song always to the Lord so that His name can be glorified.

The value of worship should not be overlooked. Many times, we as Christians are tempted to look at other things as being more important to the Lord. We will concentrate on giving our money, on helping the poor, or on writing books that contain Christian values. While all of these things are good and can be a blessing to God and to Jesus Christ, we should not be so focused on them that we forget the value of worship. When John saw his vision of heaven, he saw creatures that were created for the sole purpose of worshiping. That was all that they did, every day, at all moments! Their entire function was to give glory to God, for God values this and believes that it is important. Taking from John’s vision, we can know that part of why we were created was to allow the Spirit to move us to worship the God to whom all honor and glory should be given.

Prophetic music may seem strange even to some Christians, for it is often hard for humans to allow something else besides our own will to guide us. It is hard for us to give in to God, or to the Holy Spirit, for we will then have to relinquish the control over our own lives that we love so much. We want to be in control. However, God calls us to cast all of our cares upon Him, and to give Him full reign in our lives. He loves us and wants to be our King, and this is part of the process. Prophetic worship music can be a great way to practice giving up this control, allowing the Spirit to lead us. This will not only help with the music, but can serve as a way to bring us closer to God.
